“In with the new,” as the saying goes. Those of you subscribing to my newsletter know that we’ve just moved from our home (waay out in the country) of 17 years, to the Sacramento area. It was time to downsize and move closer to our son and daughter-in-law (more on that in a later post). It’s been a long time since we moved houses; it was just as stressful a process as we’d remembered. Selling one house while buying another, the juggling of two escrows and two sets of inspections and … and … and …. Well, you get the idea.
The packing alone took forever and was rather emotional at times. Downsizing meant purging of “stuff” – some more difficult to part with than others – and we had some hard decisions to make. But we got through it and have been in the new place about a week. So far we have been completely immersed in unpacking – with much more to do. There’s no real rush, of course, other than having to constantly say “Where did I see ….”
On the bright side, I successfully “negotiated” (read “begged” and “pleaded”) for the office space at the front of the house to use as my studio – mostly because it has better light than the guest bedrooms. It’s been more than a year since I packed away my art supplies in preparation for the sale of the house. Needless to say, I’m more than ready to get my studio up and running. I took a few minutes to do a short video for you on my first studio project – setting my new art supply storage unit. I apologize in advance for the lighting and the uneven sound quality – be prepared to adjust your volume control. I don’t have proper recording lighting set up (yet) and the video of the storage unit was shot on my iPhone.
I’ll be back soon with more video … assuming of course, I don’t get lost in this sea of boxes!
Just realized this post is over a year old. You must be well and truly set up by now
Lol- well it’s just UNDER a year, but it has taken me way longer than I thought it would to get it sorted and then of course, life intervened. BUT I am working on a new studio tour and should have it up soon. Thanks so much for stopping by my blog! I always appreciate hearing from my audience!
Love your new work station. Don’t forget to show us the next step in your new adventure
Hey, Trish! Yes, I promise I will!
Wow! Looks amazing! I know you’re anxious to start creating in your new space!
Thanks, girlfriend! I’m excited to get started once I’m all squared away!
Thanks, Jana! I’m excited to get started once I’m all squared away!
Vicki, the cabinet is awesome! You’ll be ‘in business’ before long! If we don’t hear from you for a few days, we’ll send in a carpenter! LOL
Thanks for sharing your highlights with us! I like what I see!
Su
Hey my friend! Make sure that carpenter has a shovel …. I’m probably buried! LOL!
Looking good, girlfriend! I’m glad you’re moving from the ‘unpacking hell’ to something more fun. Well, more fun than unpacking boxes! Can’t wait to see your finished studio. 🙂
More stuff from storage delivered on Monday – but the end is in sight!
Hi Vicky, I can see all the changes u have done recently. Bravo to you! I don’t have a big house . So I struggle to accommodate with my different hobbies things. My living room is always a mess. I don’t know how u did it with your new place.
I have one question about how you transfer you mix media art elements to digital elements?
Good luck with new place.
sincerely
Radha
Hi Radha! So happy you stopped by again! I know what you mean about small spaces. I have a hard enough time with supplies for mixed media! I don’t think could handle another hobby!
As for my mixed media work, I scan or take a photo of everything as it is in process. For example, when I’ve got the first layers of a background done, I will scan or take a picture and continue to do that at each stage. I use the scans and photos in Photoshop and manipulate them until I get them to the stag that they become either digital background papers or textures that I can use on digital backgrounds or elements. My Time to Renew collection is a perfect example. I scanned a water abstract floral painting and played with in it Photoshop until I could use it in all sorts of ways. I’ve done a video for Oscraps that I’ll post on my blog – I show a little of how I did that. Does that help?
Very cool!!! You deserve an awesome work space and I am so happy for you! I’m glad you are on the other side of the move and in no time, you will be settled in. I also don’t know if I could move again but we do what we have to do. Good luck in your new home girlfriend!
Thanks, my friend! I think the unpacking stage is almost at an end!
Wow! Very impressive. You will enjoy that so much! I cannot imagine all that you have been doing recently. When we built our house we vowed to stay here until we die!! Just the thought of packing all our stuff blows my mind. I’m glad you are happy and I think you have the worst over! The fun has begun getting all your “playroom” set up!!
Hi Kay! That’s exactly what we said when we built our other house … best laid plans, huh?? LOL!
Oh wow, I need that cabinet too! It looks wonderful! I could HIDE all my stuff, if I needed to.
I KNOW, right? At least the studio has doors I can close if I get too, too messy!
