I recently bought a new 5TB external hard drive (score!!!) to use as my Time Machine backup drive and during the process of moving files from one external to the other, I made a huge score! I came a cross a series of videos I’d recorded and edited for a friend who planned to use them in a class she was going to teach. When the class never materialized, my friend turned the videos back over to me …. and I promptly forgot about them.
I’m happy to share the first of those videos with you – an excursion I took to our local dollar store (quite some time ago) on the hunt for items to use as tools for my mixed media work. Oh – I want to thank you all for your kind words of condolences after the loss of my Mom in November. As you can see from the date of my last post, I needed to take some time off from blogging – 2015 was truly a sucky year for my family filled with the loss of family members and friends. If I had one bit of wisdom to pass along to you, it would be to remember that life can be cut short very suddenly – so be sure to be kind to everyone you encounter (you never know what internal struggle people are facing) and be sure to tell your loved ones often how much you care for them.

Really cool finds!!! So sorry about your mom, I had no idea.
The flat white grid thing near the end goes in the bottom of your sink. It keeps things from hitting the bottom and breaking. My mom had a cast iron covered in porcelain sink and it was horrible for breaking things by bumping or dropping even short distances! That object also ‘strains’ small items from going down towards the drain.
What clever ideas! Your hubby was sure resourceful! Like you say, “Who knew?” They are good for something other than killing large bugs, eh? LOL That was just an old joke between my hubby and I. I’m happy for you. It seems ya’ll are the best of friends. We were, too. We always said that, after the children were grown, we would have our time together. Didn’t make it! But, he was a good friend.
And, dogs do teeth! Something terrible! They love the corners of end tables, shoes, socks, walls, whatever satisfies their need. Unfortunately, for humans, they can really wreck things if you don’t put them away. You know the old line, “My dog ate my homework!” That is where it comes from. LOL They will eat ANYTHING!
I remember that your mom passed, Vicki, and that it was real hard for you. I remember the first year and all the “firsts”. First Mother’s day without Mom, first Christmas, etc. We children would get together, rather than each sit home missing her. We would go out to dinner or order out. No one wanted to have to cook. We just spent the day together and recalled fond memories and shed a few tears. I’m never going to get over losing my mom. She’s been gone since 1996, so, whoa, twenty years! It feels like it was last year – still. But, it did get a little easier. Her passing was unexpected. I had developed a special bond with my mom just a few years before she passed. But, I am so grateful we had those few years!
My heart goes out to you, dear friend. I am always here, too! Blessings to you and hubby!

White rectangle stencil is probably the plastic you put at the bottom of your sink to sort of give a cushion so you don’t break glass in case you drop something in the sink.
