Create a Dimensional Cut-Out Look in Minutes
Ever wanted to add a little wow to your digital scrapbook pages — without spending hours figuring it out?
Here’s a fast and easy way you can add dimension and visual interest to your digital layouts, as Evelyn did with her page (she used The Garden Within Mega Kit.) It’s a super simple trick that looks like magic but is easy as pie, using circle shapes and clipping masks in Photoshop or Photoshop Elements.
I demonstrate exactly how to get this cutout effect in my YouTube tutorial, which I’d love for you to watch, but here’s and overview of the steps.
Create a Dimensional Cut-Out Look in Minutes
Step-by-Step Instructions
- Open a new file or layout in Photoshop or Photoshop Elements.
- Add a background paper.
- Using the Elipse Tool, nested in the Custom Shape Tool, hold the Shift key and drag out a circle.
- Drag in a fun patterned paper over the circle and then “clip” it to the circle.
- In the Custom Shape Tool, locate the circle frame with the thin border and click and drag out the shape to match the size of the circle shape.
- Add a new paper over the circle frame layer, and then “clip it to the circle frame.
- Add a small drop shadow to the circle frame layer to create the illusion of depth.
