Gelli Printed Transparent Overlays

It’s been awhile since I had the chance to play with my gelli plate. It’s one of those things that when you start to play with you just can’t stop.

A “gelli” plate is thin slab of a solid, but flexible synthetic gelatin-like material.

You apply acrylic paint and stencils and other materials onto the plate, lay a piece of paper over the plate and then pull the paper back up. The result is a “mono” print.

I now have stacks and stacks of these gelli prints, which I use in my art journals – and I use them as the basis for many of the patterns and prints you’ll see in my digital art journaling and scrapbooking kits.

Last week I scanned some of those prints and turned them into transparent overlays that you can use to make your own “mixed media backgrounds”! They’re in my shop now at my new release 20% off sale through Thursday, July 18th.

I’ve got a video showing how I use transparent overlays to make backgrounds/papers. The video was intended for other designers, but if you would like more detail on some the technique I used, just let me know in the comments below and I’ll add that to my tutorials list. I’ve added a ‘”closed caption” option to the video – just look for the “CC” icon at the bottom of the screen.

If you’d like to try your hand and using transparent overlays, be sure to subscribe to my newsletter. Subscribers will get this sample overlay and one of the papers I made in the video as a gift from me! My subscribers receive special offers, gifts and coupons not available elsewhere.
