Almost Spring!

Is it almost Spring in your corner of the world? It’s not here either, but the weather in Monterey, CA this past weekend – as you can see – was warm enough to fool us! Those are sea lions in the second photo – there are at least nine of them in this shot!

We took a short drive to the village of Carmel – very touristy, but so pretty we go anyway. Random fact: Clint Eastwood was Mayor of Carmel from 1986-1988! He still lives in the area and it’s not uncommon to run into him sauntering around town.

I decided to continue my “fearless” theme for the year and brought a brand new watercolor art journal along for the trip. I took quite a few photos and then, when we had some down time, tried sketching and painting from the pictures. My favorite is of the Tuck Box, a totally adorable little breakfast lunch place that serves the best french toast on earth! I’m new to watercolors – and sketching for that matter, but I’m pretty pleased with how it turned out! What do you think?

Speaking of Almost Spring (!!) that’s the name of my new kit —  It’s got flowers – inky flowers, doodled flowers, fabric flowers, flower silhouettes – and purple and green and paint and doodles! And most of the textures for the background papers came straight from my art studio!

  1. Amazing Watercolor! I wish I had just half that talent! I was up in the mountains today for my son’s ski lessons, I am so ready for the sun!

    • I didn’t know watercolors were supposed to be hard! I like working with them because they look so artistic – even the mistakes!

  3. Looks like a wonderful time in Monterey! Glad you got out of town…sounded like you needed it! Hope you came back all refreshed! Love your watercolor sketch…I think I hear a framing calling it’s name! 🙂
